Fall 2014 found that most Eccentric of New York Fashion Eccentrics, Anna Sui Pureeing up inspirations of Chinese Film star of Olde, Anna May Wong, Pueblo Deco design and... Anjelica Huston's Mum? Say Whosie-Whatsie? Well, Sui found herself reading Huston's Autobio and there was a story about how Huston's Mother would send Coco Chanel, Herself, Irish Tweeds so the Doyenne of the Rue Cambon and her Atelier could Whip them into Garments for her! Nice Work If You Can Get It, Right? So, with all that floating around in Sui's Medulla Oblongata, She paraded forth this slightly less than successful showing.
The main offence of this outing, there was just TOO Much going on. Literally and Contextually. It was Busy with a Capital B-U-S-Y! And counterpoint that with trying to cram one too many inspirational ideas into one theme and you've got a Flotilla of Chaos on your hands. The collection had some beautiful ideas and pieces in it, But, Why with all the colour that was pouring out of this collection did it still feel Dreary, Lifeless, Joyless. It actually felt kind of Strangely Inverse to Colourful!
A Couple lovely pieces wafted out near the end that were so pretty they almost, ALMOST made wading through the rest of the collection worth it. Exit Nos. 47 and 48 were Spot on TERRIFIC and some of the most lovely Evening options presented by Any Designer, Ever! But that's about where the Highlights ended, It wasn't all dreadful. It wasn't even Dreadful, for that matter. Sui just threw one too many things on her plate from the Inspiration Buffet and tried to say too much with so much! Scaling back a Bit, Hell, Scaling back a Whole Helluva Lot was what was needed, she would have had a more Acute Concision to her Vision. It was Still Sui-Tastic on it's own merits, But it wasn't the best she can do!
That's All.
