Yes, It'd be way too easy to fault this collection for being another one of those Evening-centric Excursions that have seemed to pop up all through the Fashion Weeks. Yes, it is a totally Evening based collection, and for being such, Much Weaker than any other show it could go up against. Knowing from his work with Givenchy, Many Moons past, if he wants, MacDonald can produce Beautiful Day Wear. That he stubbornly doesn't, Well it makes him something of a Pain In The Ass!
As I was saying, it'd be easy to fault MacDonald for being the Glitz Master and Fashioner of Flash that he is, but it kind of would be pointless. Julien, unlike even MOST designers out there doing Evening only clothes, Lives ONLY For the Cameras and the Red Carpets. He is a Paparazzi Whore and he makes no qualms about it. His clothing is for the woman who wants to Sparkle, Spangle, Shimmer and Gleam! That kinda of Commitment to one's self is Admirable. And the Party Frocks he produces are Prodigiously Extravagant.
It still doesn't mean that the collection does not suffer from Excessive Overload of Glamour. It Does, and this collection in Particular, it suffered greatly. Everything was so Hot Damn Busy with Beading and Embroidery and Net and Sheer and every conceivable embellishment known to Man that the clothes were more like Superheroine Costumes than Honest to Goodness Evening clothes. There was not one Brief nanosecond of Relief or Breathing room to counterpoint the Heaping on of all things Shiny. Where one would like to point out Specific outfits, with so much Sheen and Dazzle Besotting the eye, things blurred together into one Amorphous whole.
Yes, This Stuff is the Stuff of Wolf Whistles and getting a Girl noticed in all the right ways, but it's like someone with Diabetes who also has an unrelenting Sweet Tooth being left to their own devices in a Sweet Shoppe. The outcome is a Diabetic Coma, And this was a Glamour Coma. One that had me saying, Wake Me When It's Over!
That's All.
Bye4Now!
