There is always a Joyful Disregard for what the Winds of Fashion are blowing into the Great Metropolis of New York at The House Oscar Built. De la Renta is going to do what he does, Whether you Like It, Or Not! He isn't swaying like a Willow in the Wind, He's as Steadfast as an Ancient Sequoia! De la Renta, for that reason alone, still is the Gold Standard in the NY Fashion community. It might be also because, the man delivers the goods season to season! Without Fail! It's always a new envisioning of his Signature, but he keeps things Contemporary and Far from Staid by keeping in touch with what is now, he isn't so Preoccupied Arrogantly with his own past Glories, But he knows what works for him too and when not to bend to the pressures of the Momentary!
For Fall 2014 de la Renta's Collection had a less than subtle Mannish bent to it, with all those Grey Pinstripes and Pants Galore. Even with a Masculine edge filtering through this season, Oscar never forgets that his Clients are Ladies and want to feel like Ladies. So, In the opening exit, there was Pinstripes, but thrown over the "Pantsuit" was a Natural Barguzin Sable topper. TONY! Then the Mohair Cardigan coat that was worn over the Pinstripe ensemble that followed was also trimmed in that Luscious Pelt.
Oscar is known for his opulent hand, here today was no different, yet it was toned down practically to a Whisper of Fur and some Embellished pieces that didn't even look embellished until they were witnessed under closer inspection. This lent a refreshing Strictness to Oscar's Daywear that hasn't been present in a while. The usual Romance indicative of his work was replaced with a Seriousness that wasn't Dour, but was more Rigourous!
A Beautiful Violet Swing coat with a Painter's Smock like Ascot Shawl collar at Exit No. 5 had the Dueling Rigour and Romance combo down to a Fine Science, While a Black Suit in Pleated Tiered Leather, Velvet and Crepe Satin at Exit No. 37 had that same Quivering Dichotomy! From here, the collection sailed on in this vein and when we reached evening... Oscar Finally let himself go, as per usual, but this season saw some of his most stunning work to date!
To say there is a Bounty of Riches in the Evening section is a clear exercise in extreme Understatement. From a Gilt Gold Foil Printed Black tulle cocktail Number at Exit No. 37 to an Absolutely Jaw-Dropping Ice Bleu Duchesse Drape front gown at Exit No. 44! But it didn't Stop there! No. In fact it got only more Stupendous! And More! And MORE!
A Burgundy Wine Velvet and Peony Pink Duchesse Ball Gown at Exit No. 45 was Just this Side of Heavenly, while Afterwards a Super pale Eau De Nil Duchesse gown had Operatic Gravitas. While the Pair of Gold Embroidered Faille Ballgowns with Tulip wrap skirts and Hi-Lo hems in Geranium and Chocolate were Heart Stoppers of a Monumental sort! The Black Tulle gown with Royal Blue floral cutwork Embroidery on Jac at Exit No. 54 was making Hearts skip a beat or two!
As always, de la Renta Poised himself on the Mountain Top of Grandeur and Extravagance, but never was his footing even for a scarce microsecond, Unsure or anything less that Completely Confident! With such bold self assurance, de la Renta can give us a Blockbuster Collection like that and Continue to Bewitch us forevermore. It's a Privilege to see someone so Astonishingly Secure in what they do and what they believe in and coupled with the Sheer Love of what he does, Oscar is as Equally A Fashion Alchemist as he is a Dream Maker. De La Renta, simply Time and Time again proves, He is the King of NY Fashion, and when he produces collections like this, There is no questioning of His Regal Title!
That's All.
Bye4Now!
