Giovanna Randall is one of those designers who is working in that same Kind of Spirit that the Valentino Duo, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli are, Fragile, Girly beauty that is heavily Eccentric and Incredibly Detailed but within all that there is a Severity and Reserve that makes these girls seem almost Penitent, Austere even. That is the twin driving forces behind both lables it would seem and the houses seem, from season to season, to operate on the same playing field, but viewing it from different ends and perspectives.
To that end, Fall 2014 was Frilly and Feminine, Colourful and Cheery, but still Sober. The Sobriety in fact tempered the Frills and Joyful colour with Prudence, even when there were Pin Pleat ruffles and Bright splashes of Pepto Pink. It made for a Truly Marvellous Collection and one that was Memorable, Original and Unique! With a play against the Darkness of the collection, Randall Juxtaposed Christmas Red and Pepto Pink against the Darker Plums and Black and then Pirouetted in the other direction and injected Cool, Icy Greys to keep things interesting! She showed that Collocation in the opening exit, An Ice Grey cropped flared jacket with flared Bracelet sleeves and a Long sleeve matching flowing blouse underneath with a Glossy Black Plaid Pencil skirt!
There, Literally, was So much Wonderful to choose from that picking out specifics is Incredibly Difficult. The Ice Grey coloured Swing Jacket over the Pink dress with an Innocently Naive floral embroidery on it's sharpened Peter Pan Collar at Exit No. 11 was Fabulous! A Black Swing Skirted dress with those same Naif Embroideries on the shoulders of the Short sleeves made for a Strong Exit at No. 21. The Black dress with the Pin Pleat Ruffle Cuffs and Collar and printed in Colouful Florals with sheen at Exit No. 25 Certainly and Dangerously crossed into Valentino territory but toed the line Insouciantely and didn't quite tip over into that hemisphere totally.
There was even, Very Cheekily, a couple of Screaming Christmas Red Gowns that Most DEFINITELY could have been taken as a Throwing Down of a Gauntlet to the Chiuri/Piccioli Duo for as all in fashion know... Red was Val's Colour! Anything with a Patina of Val that gives you a few Gloriously Unabashed Red Gowns is certainly saying... I Ain't Afraid of You!!! Randall Certainly Is Not! It's a Ballsy move and I Applaud her Heartily for doing it and doing it so well!
As the collection reached it's endgame, Randall delighted with some Frosty gowns that were Gala ready and Beautifully Achieved! The Honor collection was a Fine example of Giddy Womanliness with a Stern temperament. It's a Delicate balancing act, One that Giovanna Randall is finding herself Keenly Adept At!
That's All.
Bye4Now!
