Since Dropping the Chado from his label name a few seasons ago, Ralph Rucci, it seems has been in a Process of lightening up... Lightening up his clothes and with today's Fall 2014 show, His Edit. It was positively Shocking, Confounding, even, to see a Run Of Show of only 39 Exits... From Ralph Rucci!?! Heresy, I tell You! But what Amazingly Blissful Blasphemy it is!
The reduction of pieces in the show seemed to, in a way, Focus Rucci in the most Profound manner, as someone once said, "When One Removes All That Is Extraneous, All That Remains Is What Is Essential!" Talk about preaching the Gospel! No one would have saw this coming. It was highly unexpected, but as much as I personally have LOVED, And I Cannot stress with more emphasis how Incandescently I did LOVE Rucci's Extravagances of the past, this scaling back of things is most welcome and aligns Rucci for things of a Bigger and of a more Fabulous nature!
Fall saw such a Keenly honed vision of Rucci's Couture Aesthetic that things were almost Vibrating with Pinpoint Precision! With less to draw one's attention, even more detail stood out, and Rucci's techniques shone more brightly in both The subtlety aspect and in The more extraordinary aspects. There was such Concentrated brilliance in every piece here, from the Sublime to the Ridiculous, as in RIDICULOUSLY Bewildering technique! Rucci is one of those designers who can Stun and Awe with some of the most Punishing and Obviously Difficult design known in the Fashion industry. You don't have to guess about how Masterful Rucci is as a Tailor or the Acute skills of his Atelier. There Bountifully apparent for all to see. Which is what makes him So Beguiling!
So, Now on to the clothes. Oh, The Magical, Magnificent clothes! Where does one Begin? It really is a Feast for the Eye that verges on a Banquet. From the opening Elliptical shaped Sleeve Vinyl Coat striated to look almost like African Scarification rituals was so beautifully achieved that it aped Patent Leather to the same Elliptical shaped coat that was a Gift to the Fashion Gods of Expertise Cut and Precision Fit at Exit No. 3 and was one of those pieces that truly made my eyes water with Gratitude and Joy! It defied Explanation!
More, You Say, Certainly! The Pomegranate Red Three-Piece Coat/Tunic/Pant Ensemble at Exit No. 9 was certainly Vintage Rucci but had a Freshness and freedom of Excess that defines the new Ralph Rucci or The Spellbindingly Modern and Minimal composition of an artistic Black ensemble at Exit No. 14 that comprised a Tunic and Skirt over pants with a Glowing Red square in the center of the chest of the Tunic that brought to mind the Purity of the Flag of Japan or even an Ellsworth Kelley Painting! A SUBLIME Chocolate Brown Alligator belted Jacket at Exit No. 18 was Quietly Luxurious but Opulent nonetheless!
There was plenty more to Marvel at, Endless words could be spoken about each Singular Exit, but that would perhaps make this review so Broad and Profuse that it would take at least perhaps a Half of an Hour to read and that would still barely scratch the surface of the Majesty of this collection. But before we end, Some of the Evening offerings. A Brilliant outfit of a Sinuously Sleek Black gown sliced all the way to the hip revealing a pair of Fluid Cantaloupe coloured pants at Exit No. 33, As Modern as anything ever but as equally retro reminiscent of Halston as could be! Try on for size the Mannish Modern Evening option of the Exit that followed, A Jet Black Sable coat worn over the Most deceptively simple Black Wrap blouse and Perfectly Finessed Black slacks! The Ombre Paprika Red and Black micro sequin Chiffon Veiled gown is a Masterpiece, but it was his Finale "Infanta" Skirt ensemble that took the Cake! Consisting of a Black Velvet tank top and a Gazar Ball skirt that looked as if it was angrily attacked by Francis Bacon with a Giant Paintbrush and a Bucket of Blood! IT WAS DEVASTATING! It redefined the old Iconic Rucci Infanta gown and made it something Graceful and Fresh but still Savage in it's own way!
Rucci has Taken the reigns of his destiny and began to chart a course to becoming the Superstar of the Fashion Pantheon that he SO, SO, SO Richly deserves to be! By submitting to compromise, he has shown that he does not in the least, have to lose What is is Essential Ralph Rucci, But that he CAN Reconfigure what that means and advance into the next phase of his Fashion Birthright! I, and Now Perhaps, The World, are ready for Rucci to Fulfill That Destiny!
