If David Koma cannot Revive the House of Thierry Mugler, I do not think Anyone Can. In looking at his SHOCKINGLY Good Fall 2014 collection for his Own Label (His first full Mugler show will not be until Spring 2015 in September.) One can see the Talent there that will be able to Reinvent Mugler for the 21st-Century! He needs also to keep up his own label... here is where the purest expression of his Enormous Talent can Flower and he can be more Risky! The collection today Was Strict, Punishingly Restrained, but not without Exuberance, It's just Koma's Style of Exuberance is in Detail, not in Poppy Colours or Lavish Embroidery, Things that he is going to need to learn to embrace to some degree at Mugler, with it's rich history and archive of the Exuberant taken to the Nth Degree!
Koma exhibited Incredibly Technical Facility with Super Sharp Tailoring that had a Futuristic slant to it. Opening with a Raucous Shade of Magenta, He showed his true colours by allowing this exuberance for only Two exits. Then it was Back to Black! Koma's Razor Sharp precision was extolled in a series of strappy Leather adorned pieces that allowed for not one Gram of non-essential body fat and looked Devastatingly Strict and Powerful. A Turtleneck Dress with the Strapping at Exit No. 6 was One of the best examples as well as the T-Shirt Wiggle dress that followed with the Cage effect Midriff.
As the show continued the Audience was Treated to a Diamond weave mesh of Laser cut Leather and for the Ending section, an Intricate Basket weave effect that didn't look Overwrought and Taxing to the 10th Power. It was a credit to his skills that it looked approachable and Sexy too! A peplum flared Top over a Skinny Skirt was one of the best Applications of this technique at Exit No. 22 as was The Jacket and Leather Pant ensemble at Exit No. 24.
Koma will be someone that will be keeping the Fashion world on it's toes, That he got a Plum of a Job reinventing a house in DESPERATE Need of just that, Means he has a lot on his plate to give him Anxiety. Let's Hope that we get to see the Best of him at Mugler and continue to see it at his own label.
That's All.
Bye4Now!
