Say What? Where... Who...???? The biggest Surprise of the Season so far has got to be the Extremely Accomplished and Dare one say, Kick Ass collection that sprung forth from the House of Porsche Design. Was this label on anyone's Radar before Now? Well, On The Damn Radar It Is NOW! And from the looks of it, It's not going Anywhere! This Collection positively BUZZED with Excitement and Spectacular Clothes, all thanks to Thomas Steinbrueck. Now, I hadn't heard of him til Now, (kinda like Never hear of Josep Font until last season and his Breakout collection for Delpozo, I am equating this collection in that Rarefied World, Yes I Am!) And what a way to make one's name known! From the press info, Steinbrueck has been designing for Porsche Design since 2011, but it seems that 2014 is the first time the house has decided to show on the Calendar (the first show it seems was for Spring, which I loved but had no clue who was behind it or anything!) and got the press all abuzz!
Steinbrueck said he was inspired by Late 70's Alpine-Wear and what he called, a "Retro-Futuristic" feeling. How futuristic the collection was is kind of up for grabs, but what it CERTAINLY was, was Chic, Modern, HOT! Working in OBVIOUSLY Luxurious Fabrications and Clean, Spare, Sharp Design, Steinbrueck carved a niche in the Luxe Sportswear market with a hand as Sure as that of King Arthur Holding Excalibur! The Opening Exit just looked so DAMN Chic! Cut to perfection, the asymmetric closure crop Jacket and Wrap skirt looked Surprisingly Fresh and New. After that there was so much to find Awing that it would be a Fool's Errand to try to Catalogue it all!
The Colour Palette was another key to the success of this collection. Cranberry, Oxblood, Burnt Orange, Cream, Mustard, Luggage Brown. And the fearless way at times that Steinbrueck mixed those colours was Heart Racing! Mix in Black, Navy and Grey and you've got a Whole Season's worth of options!
Breezing through the collection any number of outfits could be called out for being Extra Special... Exit No. 6. A Cranberry Red Shift dress in a Felted Cashmere that morphed into Buttery smooth Leather of the same shade... A Burnt Orange Satin Wrap dress worn over Cranberry tights (That fearless sense of Colour!) at Exit No. 14... A Winter White Leather zip-front Jacket and Knit sweater under worn with a Sparkly Crystal Beaded skirt in a Pale shade of Whitish Nude at Exit No. 22... The Severely Simple but by no means plain Black Bathrobe Wrap coat at Exit No. 36...
I could go on... And the Men's offerings were Equally Impeccable! Steinbrueck proved, Beyond ANY doubt that he is Ready for his Close-Up and if he keeps designing like this, This might just be a Fashion Empire in the making and we might be witnessing the Ascendance of a New Luminary in the Fashion Solar System. A Luminary, by the name of Thomas Steinbrueck!
That's All.
Bye4Now!
