Giambattista Valli.

Mon. 03/03/2014.

"I wanted to Design for a Woman who is Confident to dress in WOMEN'S Clothes!" so for such a Woman he designed clothes that he equated to a Man's arms around his woman, giving her a Warm Hug of Fashion Femme-ness! For Fall 2014, This worked Beautifully.... Some of the times. Some other times, it was a case of Too much going on at once.

Valli has an Artistic Temperament, that manifests itself at times in overdoing things where less would be more. Here, the Artsy decision to create boxy looking folded shapes at the sides of his skirts and dresses was Okay here and there, but the universality of it in the collection began to be too much, especially as it made the models look Wide instead of Feminine. When Valli kept the bottoms Buoyant and Bouncy with just simple Volume, the look was as Femme as all Get Out! The Richest rewards to be reaped Happened when Valli simply let his Couture Skills do the talking.

Here, Pink and Red and Floral prints conjured up Womanly ideas of Prettiness to Gorgeous effect, A Simple flat front Pink Coat in a Brushed Wool was Mighty as was a Shimmery Pink sleeveless Cloque dress on Elisabeth Erm with a Huge Pleated Ruffled Flounce for the hem. The softness achieved here today was Remarkable and a Tribute to the Ateliers that Valli has at his command. The overall Impression that was left was one of Celebration of Womankind.

Valli didn't disappoint and showed just how serious his dedication to the craft of Clothes making is. If sometimes that erred on the side of the overdone, better that than doing the same thing as everyone else. When it comes to Valli, Though... There isn't Much fear of that happening!

That's All.
