Guy Laroche.

Weds. 02/26/2014.

Marcel Marongiu's Fall 2014 collection that he sent striding down the Catwalk was an Uneven Affair to be sure. The Vacillations between the Very Good and the Maladroit were ever so apparent. There were some very Inelegant and Frankly, Dismaying design elements that Surely were of no use in making the clothes sing. Bulky Seaming, Stiff, Inflexible fabrics, Gawky Volumes... It sometimes was so much going on that the Purity of the garment got lost among all the Affectations.

The First mistake, those totally Ineffectual Flouncy, Layered hems... Nothing good came from them. Second... those Pinched Scrolled seams in front and back of some of the pieces on top... They looked Alien and Tricky just for the sake of Tricky, Serving no purpose than to add Girth and Volume where none was needed! By Contrast, when things were simplified, they were Speaking directly to the Desires of a Modern Woman.

Take, For instance, A Slim Black coat with hidden Button placket that was Gracefully Simple and Sumptuous! Or a Black Turtleneck with a floor sweeping Sunburst pleated Black skirt that was Mysterious and Sensual! Those Sequined totally sheer pieces that ended things were a Confusing Lot. They could have veered into the Perversely Sexualized and Whorish, Yet did not. But still, How practical they are for the modern woman... I couldn't began to make that case for them no matter how hard I Blustered!

Marongiu can make Exceptional clothes, That was proven Last Season, and in parts of this season. But the Overdesigned elements of this collection made it less a Creative Win than it could have been. Sometimes Experimentation gets the best of a Designer... This was one of those times!

That's All.
