Yohji Yamamoto.

Thurs. 02/28/2014.

To go into any kind of Dissection of the work of Yohji Yamamoto is Asking for Trouble. You cannot objectify what Yamamoto does in any sense of the Normal or Commonplace. What he does so defies that Simplistic view that one might drive themselves Crazy in entertaining such Notions. You cannot Place this in the Regular, or Anything Remotely relating to Conventional, Which in and of itself is why Yamamoto's work is so Necessary.

Yamamoto's work MUST Exist to show us the Mirror image of the Everyday, the Mundane, the Trivial. All things his work Reject with such radical Vehemence. One can ask, What to make of the Inflated, Padded Duvet Comforter Volumes seen on the runway for Fall 2014? The Bulging Bumps and Disproportions? How does this relate to Modern and Real Life, if it does relate at all? Is Yamamoto seriously asking us to believe these clothes have relevance to Modern Life? The Beauty lies in that those Questions are Inconsequential! Yamamoto isn't Dictating, He is even Suggesting. He is not even Proposing. He is Creating. Whether you GET it or Don't, That concerns him little to nothing. Yamamoto isn't ASKING you to understand. He is making what fuels his creationist spirit. If you enjoy the trip. So much the better! But make no mistake. If you feel alienated from his ideas, That's your problem!

There are those that function on the same Wavelength as Yamamoto and react as Viscerally to his work as he does and that is his audience, The Like Minded Madcap Individualists. The take away is that you, the audience, have seen something Special and Rare and Unique. Something that doesn't Require Description. One should be moved by the Splashy Floral print section of Oversized coats That looked like the most Impressive Bed Covering. or the Slightly Askew Pair of suits that with some tinkering can be made for the everyday. But that again, Diverts from the Prime Directive of Yamamoto!

This collection was Surreal in it's Blazingly Colourful use of Comic prints and Expansive Volumes. But the Surreal Extended far beyond this. And like some of the Prints, Was A Delightfully Hallucinogenic Experience!

That's All.
