Wes Gordon.

Tues. 02/11/2014.

Wes Gordon is One of those designers that with each collection, you can see, if not innately FEEL him Honing his Signature style! He seems with each new offering, to be trimming away and paring down to the core of what essentially, IS, Wes Gordon! The Process is yielding Interesting results in all kinds of Exciting ways. The Big thing is, is that you can see a Superstar in the Making. He's Getting into that Pocket, That Sweet Spot where all the elements are Fusing together into a Magnificent Whole. His Fall 2014 collection was a Furthering of that Emerging.

Speaking with Gordon, He said he was inspired firstly, By Fabric. The fabrics dictated to him what he was going to design, I am sure he had an overarching idea in his mind, but the fabrication and manipulations of those fabrics solidified it. There is a Maturity to Gordon's work that is enhanced by his taste for Refinement, Here today though, he Joyfully skewed that Raffine Attitude to something a little more undone and unhinged. It added a Bounce to his clothes that was gleefully welcome. There was a Sensual attention to Skin, never Lewd or Unwholesome, He is a Southern Gentleman for God's Sake, But Also not Prissy or Frigid.

Gordon Opened with a Sheath dress with a Plunging V-Neck (There's the Skin!) that Limpidly flounced about the model, it wasn't shapeless, It was Relaxed, but still Sexy! But Gordon really showed he's grown in Confidence and that his Clientele is ready to Dare with Exit No. 6 on Herieth Paul. A Claret Coloured Sweater on top of a Skirt that was on top Glacial Blue Chiffon that was cut to reveal all of the opposite side of the skirt and underneath was a Sheer Mettalic Veil of an Underskirt in roughly the same shade as the Sweater. It was Definitely not for the Tame! It was a Risky Juxtaposition but it never degraded into the Vulgar!

One of the surprises of the collection was a Multicolour Fabric that Gordon used to Marvellous effect in a Pair of Pants and Two Skirts that looked like it was a print fabric but was Actually Embroidered FIRST and THEN Printed on top of the Embroidery... SAY WHAT?! It's Unfathomably Beautiful up close and looks a little Tribal, A little Klimt-like from far away but is Stunning no matter how you view it! Most easily appreciative in a pair of Slim pants that was Crazily paired with two other prints, One for the Blouse and another for the Blazer at Exit No. 11.

As we followed Gordon deeper into the Rabbit Hole of his Design world, the collection simply became Stronger and Stronger... A Ice Blue Great coat with Waist High Double Vents in back at Exit No. 14 was an Immediate Must-Have Piece, while Exit No. 21... HEAVEN! I suggested even to him that this piece, on Manon Leloup should have been the closer, it is that Astounding. A Breeze of Glacial Blue Chiffon with a Fluttering Fishtail, A Work Of ART! Utterly Beguiling!

Lest I go On and On... One last Mastepiece, A Tobacco Brown Double Breasted Pantsuit with a Dark Olive Overcoat at Exit No. 25 was also saying Things that need to be heard! With this being only his Second Formal show and with a Client base that stretches to both ends of the Country, Gordon is Poised to become a Player in the Game of Fashion that has All-Star next to his name. He has the Ability, He has the Charm, He has... THE GOODS! That Blue Gown, For Me, is Proof Positive this Young Man can Do Anything he damn well chooses to. I just hope he chooses to keep Delighting the World with his Gifts!

That's All.

Bye4Now!
