Badgley Mischka.

Tues. 02/11/2014.

Mark Badgley and James Mischka Know their way around an Evening Gown! They could teach a Master Class in Formal Wear 101! Though, as I have stated before, Confections alone do not a Designer Make. Within that Construct, you can only be taken so seriously, if you cannot make Day Wear that is Viable to the Whole Wide World of Women, then you are relegated to being just fodder for Red Carpets and Premieres and as Powerful as that can be, an empire cannot be built on The Red Carpet. Nor, will the Serious Fashion Power Players take you for anything other than a Fluff Designer. Mark and James have travelled in enough Fluff to fill a Closet full of Duvets in the past! But now, it looks as if the Sun is rising on the House of Badgley Mischka!

With another Marvellous season that sees the duo Forcefully sticking to Luxed up Day Wear, It found them for Fall 2014 in Spectacular Form! The Day wear here was Cracklingly Good! Crisp, Rich, Decadent even! For Badgley and Mischka, Finding that Synergy of inputting their Extravagant tastes into more Sober, Restrained Day wear was always going to be the sticking point, but once they DID find the exact proportions for the Recipe, It's Le Cordon Bleu worthy Delicious!

Opting to open with an All Black outfit, for THIS HOUSE, was a risk of High Diving Caliber. But the outfit was Uptown Chic all the way, Original and instantly Wearable! One could pick up something of a Zhivago Pulse beating at the heart of this collection, But it was actually Gustav Klimt and Vienna Secessionist Josef Hoffmann, One of the Creators of the "Wiener Werkstatte" Klimt's influence could be readily seen and it added a Subtle, Serpentine Sensuality to the proceedings that was Curiously Exciting!

Take Exit No. 6 which was Certainly calling to mind the works of Klimt, A Black Lace gown with brocaded Embroidery of Metallic Flowers on the bodice and down the front of the gown. It was Breathtaking! When they kept it Simple it was also Genius! A Black Dress in a Textured fabric with Trompe L'Eoil capelet sleeves at Exit No. 12 was quite Perfect! Also worth noting, the Sharp Leopard print suit at Exit No. 17. This was all though, a Warm Up so the pair could cut loose with the Evening wear. That, was Typically a Stunning Affair, One needn't pick out Individual Pieces, All were Lovely. The big takeaway here was that the Day wear, while not all of it Strong, Was there. Mark and James are TRYING! This is, as far as they have ever delved into these waters, and is a little Alien, to be sure, But they are giving it the Old College Try!

In conclusion, It was a Solid effort, with some wobbly missteps in some of the Day pieces, but those can be overlooked and forgiven for the plain fact that the Badgley/Mischka Duo have stepped FAR outside their comfort zone and are confronting a Big Monster, Head On! Whatever stumbles they may have made are massively Outweighed by their successes in this arena. The Key Now is, Not to give up and continue to Strike Forth! If they do that... The Beast Will be Slayed!

That's All.
