Tommy Hilfiger.

Mon. 02/10/2014.

Tommy Hilfiger certainly took a few things away from his time within the presence of the Great One, Karl Lagerfeld. One, Being true to one's aesthetic and Design sense. Two, How to Create a Spectacle of a Show Set! Whereas, before Hilfiger seemed to be trying to stake his claim as Heir Apparent to Ralph Lauren, Now he seems to be wholly embracing his own Identity and what that means respect to his Fashion and Brand. That has manifest itself in the Blockbuster presentations of His Spring 2014 show and Now, His Fall 2014 Show. He still has a LONG way to go to even come CLOSE to Uncle Karl, or for that matter, Marc Jacobs, But he shows that has the potential to get there!

Concerning the clothes of Fall 2014, it was a Plaid-A-Palooza and had more than a passing debt to the Grungy 90's. Here Hilfiger Refigured the Plaid shirt ubiquitous and sacrosanct to the Grunge Gen X-er of old into flirty and flippy dresses and cast about them all manner of pieces devoted to the Ski Culture of Vail and Aspen and Telluride and anywhere where the Young and Fun and most likely, Rich play and look natty doing so. This conceit yielded some Effectively Strong Outerwear, but the real surprise was that the pieces underneath, plaid mostly, were as fetching.

The show was propelled forward by mainly Brief dresses, in Shirt style or Sweater, there were a few pants thrown in, A Denim Jumpsuit was an especially good piece, but mainly the hems were Leg revealing and Minuscule. With every style and Colour combination seemingly conceivable, Hilfiger Shot his Wad with the plaids and more often than not, his best pieces were devoid of the Tartan stuff.

Take, Par Example, Exit No. 23, an Embroidered Suede "Cowboy" Shirt dress. It was Witty and Gay but also Cool as all get out. The Hooded Popover dress lined in a Purple plaid at Exit No. 26 was another outstanding piece. These among the Plaid overload, combined for a Strangely Gamine and particularly appealing view of Fall 2014. Sticking with what he knows and reworking it in charming ways made for one of Hilfiger's strongest collections. Sometimes, it is just the best tack to, "Go With What You Know!"

That's All.
