Dennis Basso.

Mon. 02/10/2014.

The thing I absolutely Love about Dennis Basso is that, he is Unabashedly and Unashamedly going to do his thing every season, and that means there's gonna be a whole LOTTA Fur, A Ton of Grand Evening gowns and an Atavistic Joyful disregard of all that is considered Stodgy and Old School. Does that mean Basso is Hard Headedly Stubbon and Fixed in the past, Hardly. But there is something of the Good Old Bad Old days about his clothes.

Fall 2014 was another signature affair Chez Basso. It sadly was also one of the weakest he's produced in a few season. Mainly because about after the halfway point, the clothes just became Uninteresting and somewhat burdened by a lack of Freshness. In the early stages, Breathtaking. Inspired by Contemporary Art, Basso found himself splashing great swaths of Brushstroke like details over pieces and that looked most Awesome on the Grand Black Ballgown of Exit No. 14 in which Giant bands of Silvery Blue and Grey and Metallic Gold were applied to Opulent and Stunning Effect! A White A-Line gown at Exit No . 23 with Black Strokes was also Keeping things Special!

It was also somewhere around this point when things started to lose cohesion and in a few sad instances, look woefully dated. Starting when the colour scheme went to Royal Blue and from then on, the show lost a Boatload of steam and felt Dreadfully Leaden and weighed down by too much design and by a really bad choice of colours. An embroidered Black Chiffon gown at Exit No. 34 was Quite Lovely, but it was stuck in the middle of a section of clothes that were just unfortunately less than Beautiful!

Basso delivered some Outstanding pieces in this collection. Even in the latter half of the show there were some Stunners, but the less than stellar pieces here gave the collection a wobbly lopsided effect. With the opening half so Tremendous, The latter half just unbalanced all the good that had been shown up to that point, But still in all, The Better Half Won the Day!

That's All.
